General
Counselling usually takes place once a week, at the same time where possible. This helps create continuity in the therapeutic process.
Counselling can be offered on a short-term basis, usually around 12 sessions, or on an open-ended basis, depending on your needs and what feels most appropriate for you.We can review the process together as counselling develops and consider what feels appropriate for you.
The first full session gives us more time to talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like support with and anything important for me to understand about your current situation. It is also a chance for you to get a sense of how it feels to work together.
No. Some people begin counselling with a very clear concern, while others have a more general sense of feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected or uncertain. We can begin with whatever feels most present for you.
People come to counselling for many different reasons, including anxiety, low mood, relationship and family difficulties, loss, estrangement, loneliness, self-criticism, significant life changes and questions around identity, meaning or direction. You do not need to be in crisis to begin therapy.
Yes. Face-to-face sessions are available in Clapham and Brixton, London, and online sessions are available across the UK.
Counselling is confidential, and I work within the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).There are some limited circumstances where confidentiality may need to be discussed, for example, if there are serious safety concerns or where disclosure is required by law. I will explain confidentiality and its limits clearly at the beginning of counselling.
If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I ask for as much notice as possible. My full cancellation policy will be explained before counselling begins and included in the counselling agreement.
Payment arrangements will be agreed before sessions begin. Further details will be provided when we arrange your first appointment.
